On Sunday we flew to Copenhagen and stayed overnight at the Airport Hilton. The next day we boarded our transatlantic cruise. As we sailed out of Copenhagen, we passed this castle, which is apparently a castle in the play Hamlet. We had a wonderful sunset, and came back to our cabin to find this guy hanging around…
The 7th was a sea day, a day to do some much needed laundry and get acquainted with the ship. On the 8th we arrived in Bergen, Norway. We had a pleasant 20 minute walk into town, past this schooner. Note the two guys high up in the rigging working on the sails. We passed a number of ancient buildings, I particularly liked the door in this one that Nancy is standing by. I had arranged for us to take a boat trip up the fjords, the map shows where we left from, bottom left, to where we went, top right. At places the water in the fjord was 2,000 feet deep.
At one point we stopped and one of the crew members hopped off fed some friendly goats, who tried to board the boat. We arrived at this beautiful waterfall. Imagine having this white house with this incredible waterfall in your back yard.
Once we arrived back in Bergen, we had a bite to eat and then took a funicular up to the top of the mountain for a great view of the city. Note our ship, the Eurodam, is on the right side of the photo. Nancy ran into one of the famous Bergen trolls while on top of the mountain. As we entered and left Bergen we sailed under this bridge, without a lot of clearance. The Norwegian Navy escorted us out of port. Were they trying to tell us something?
