On Monday the ship docked at Laem Chabang in Thailand, during a wonderful sunrise. We originally were going to take a long tour, but we decided to just get off the ship and find a WI-FI location and shop for some essentials. So we took a shuttle bus to Pattaya. They dropped us at a very nice hotel that allowed us to sit in the lobby and use their Wi-Fi for free. We strolled around for a few minutes, but it was so hot we just took the first shuttle back to the ship. The port is mainly a commercial port and Nancy really enjoyed watching them load and unload the containers.
Tuesday has been a sea day. We were standing on our verandah soon after lunch when we heard the announcement “man overboard, starboard side.” Next we saw an orange life ring and smoke marker in the water, and we and everyone else went to the starboard side to watch. It takes a bit to slow down from 21 knots per hour and turn around but eventually we were headed back to the area. It turned out a passenger reported seeing someone in the water, and after a while we encountered three people on floats in the water. The ship sent its rescue vehicle to check them out, and they took them to a nearby fishing boat, which is probably where they were from in the first place.
Michel, a member of the ship’s orchestra, offered a Ukulele lesson to the first 30 people who showed up. Nancy was one of the lucky ones who learned a bit about the instrument. Lesson 2 later in the week.
As night approached, we watched a beautiful sunset from our balcony.
Finally, we ended the night going to listen to a couple of bands and watching an acrobat who did marvelous things with hula-hoops.
