Aug 13th–Copenhagen

We docked at Copenhagen at 8am.  We passed the Fortress of Trekroner and fields of windmills on the way in and out of the port.

On TripAdvisor.Com we found that the number one attraction in Copenhagen is a segway tour of the city, so we booked it months ago.   At about 9:45am we met Seamus, our segway tour guide and instructor.    Yes, Seamus is a nice Irish name for a nice Irish lad.   He has lived in Copenhagen for about three years, after having met, and subsequently married, a nice Danish girl after a one day visit to Copenhagen.

He gave us helmets with a radio mounted on the outside and a speakers inside.

We were given a 15 minute orientation to riding/driving a segway, an off we went on a 13 kilometer tour of Copenhagen.

The Segways were remarkably easy to work.   You push the handlebars to the right to go right and left to go left (the handlebar’s don’t turn, they shift left or right.   More pressure on the balls of your feet cause you to move forward or go faster.  More pressure on your heels causes you to stop, or if you want, go backward.    They are fairly movable.   You need to make sure you don’t scrap the wheels against something, as that will throw you, and you sometimes forget that they are a little wider than your body.   Hills, are not problem for them, up or down.   Rough surfaces are really no problem.   The one surface that is a little bit of challenge is if your going straight, but the surface your running on is a little tilted up or down on the sides.   The segway tends to move to drift towards the down hill side.

Seamus was a wonderful tour guide.   We curved through all of historic Copenhagen, visiting the palace during the changing of the guards, a historic canal area, where Hans Christian Anderson lived, and close the Little Mermaid Statue.

We spent the rest of the day on the ship, doing laundry and resting.  A wonderful day, and a new skill, riding Segways.

Tomorrow medieval Visby, Sweden.

How cool is this! We watched people on segways tour around Garden of the Gods in Colo Sprgs. No helmets though... The helmets are a great idea! Glad to see you are resting...and eating well. Love you lots!
